The Emerging Scholars Committee of the Haitian Studies Association invites applications for the following 2023 award. Award recipients will be honored at the 35th Annual HSA Conference in Atlanta, Georgia from October 5-8, 2023.
The following applications are due by September 15, 2023 for emerging scholars, based in Haiti and internationally:
HSA established the Student and Emerging Scholars’ fund during the 2006 conference. Since 2008, the HSA board has earmarked $1000 annually to support student research and participation in our annual conference.
Two scholarships ($500 each) may be applied toward travel and accommodation expenses incurred for attending an HSA conference and/or presenting a specific research project concerning Haiti and/or the Haitian diaspora.
Deadline to apply is September 15, 2023, 11:59pm EST
The award is intended to encourage undergraduate and graduate students to attend HSA’s annual conference and present their research.
Eligibility:
- Full-time student
- Minimum GPA of 3.5 (or equivalent, for example B, 87.5/100)
- Demonstrate proof of past or current research on subjects related to Haiti and/or the Haitian diaspora
Application Process:
- A copy of the abstract of the proposal submitted for the upcoming HSA conference
- A brief essay (500 words) describing your commitment to pursuing Haitian Studies
- A 100-250-word biography
- Contact information for one (1) Haitian studies scholar who can serve as a mentor for the student. (name, title, email)
- Contact information for one (1) scholar familiar with the applicant’s work who will serve as a reference. (name, title, email)

Students awarded with this scholarship will be asked to submit a copy of their final conference papers to HSA by the final day of the conference at the following address: EmergingScholars@haitianstudies.org

Les candidatures suivantes doivent être déposées d’ici le 15 septembre 2023 pour les chercheur.es émergent.es basés en Haïti et à l’international :
HSA a créé le fonds pour les étudiant˙es et les chercheur˙es émergent˙es lors de la conférence de 2006. Depuis 2008, le conseil d’administration de la HSA a affecté 1000 $ par an pour soutenir la recherche et la participation des étudiant˙es à notre conférence annuelle.
Deux bourses (500 $ chacune) peuvent être appliquées aux frais de déplacement et d’hébergement engagés pour assister à une conférence de la HSA et/ou présenter un projet de recherche spécifique concernant Haïti et/ou la diaspora haïtienne.
La date limite pour postuler est le 15 Septembre 2023, 23:59 EST.
Ce prix vise à encourager les étudiant˙es à assister à la conférence annuelle de la HSA et à présenter leurs recherches.
Critères d’admissibilité:
- Être étudiant˙e à temps plein
- Avoir une moyenne générale de 13/20 (ou l’équivalent, par exemple, B, 87.5/100)
- Présenter les preuves de recherches passées ou actuelles sur Haïti ou la diaspora haïtienne.
Pour faire une demande :
- Soumettre une copie de la proposition de conférence pour le colloque en question
- Soumettre un essai (500 mots) décrivant votre engagement à poursuivre des études haïtiennes
- Une biographie de 100 à 250 mots
- Coordonnées d’un˙e (1) chercheur˙e de HSA pouvant servir au candidat˙e de mentor. (nom, titre, e-mail)
- Coordonnées d’un˙e (1) chercheur˙e familier avec le travail du˙de la candidat˙e pouvant servir de référence. (nom, titre, e-mail)
- Relevé de note non officielle
Les étudiants bénéficiaires de cette bourse seront invités à soumettre une copie écrite de leurs présentations à HSA le dernier jour de la conférence à l’adresse suivante: EmergingScholars@haitianstudies.org
