Community Conversation: Reparation and Restitution for Hayti, hosted by AHP (Mar. 25, 2025)

This Community Conversation is intended to raise awareness on the Indemnity Debt Hayti was coerced to pay France for the Recognition of its Independence won after valiantly vanquishing Napoleon’s army. This year marks 200 years since Pres. Jean-Pierre Boyer of Hayti agreed and King Charles X of France published an Ordinance (17 Apr 1825) recognizing the Independence of Hayti in return for a ransom of 150 M Gold Francs to be paid to the Enslavers for losses of their assets.
The enriching exchange and empowering discussion on the subject will appeal to Haytians globally to Organize, Unite and Advocate for Reparation and Restitution for Hayti. The Community Conversation aims to set the stage to bring forth a Movement on this Issue, a rallying call for organized Action and exertion of public pressure on France and USA, while outreaching and mobilizing Allies worlwide for this Just, Moral and Noble Cause. This session is one among a series to educate the current Generation and next-Generation of Haytians on this Issue of paramount Importance that has crippled Hayti (financially, economically, socially, emotionally), squandered opportunities for growth and hindered potential development for several generations.
The cycle of debts and dependency resulting from this financial imposition by France with international support from other world powers at the time, clearly impoverished Hayti to the tune of $21 B (estimated in today’s dollars) and set the country into the spiral of misery, poverty and underdevelopment we have experienced to date.
