Carlo Handy Charles is a PhD student in sociology at McMaster University and the Université des Antilles. His doctoral research examines the interplay of homosexuality and diaspora in Haiti. His broader research interests include international migration, diaspora studies, transnationalism, sexualities, and mental health. He is a pre-doctoral fellow at the Convergence Migrations Institute (Collège de France, Paris). He is a Vanier and a Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation scholar (Canada). Beyond academic research, Carlo H. Charles has engaged in public policy debates on migration and asylum through his various publications in news media, and he is currently co-writing a play with Dr. Alice Carré about the Haitian revolution.
