Lodging information:
The following hotels have agreed to reserve rooms for conference participants up until the “Cut off date” of Sunday, October 1st, 2017. In order to lock in our rates and guarantee accommodation, it is recommended you call directly prior to the cut off dates and reference the Haitian Studies Association 29th Annual Conference or Haitian Studies Association Room Block.

Transportation to Conference Events (read full schedule here):
Transportation will be provided from the hotels to the universities courtesy of the host institutions.
Thursday Morning: Events for Emerging Scholars on Thursday Morning: The shuttle to Tulane University on Thursday morning will depart the hotels at 7:30 a.m. Please be in your hotel lobby at 7:20 a.m. There is only ONE morning shuttle.
Thursday Afternoon: There are three events at Tulane on Thursday afternoon:
(a) 2:00 p.m. Roundtable on Haitian Studies in North American Universities
(b) 4:00 p.m. Opening Session on Historic Preservation in Post-Disaster Recovery Contexts
(c) 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. President’s Reception
A shuttle will depart the hotels at 3:00 p.m. AND again at 4:00 p.m. to transport people to these events.
Note: For participants who wish to come directly from the airport to the Tulane University campus, a taxi or Lyft ride from the airport will cost approximately $40 with additional charges for more than two passengers. There is also a company called Airport Shuttle, which operates a shared van service to the Tulane University campus. Because the van stops at multiple hotels and other locations, this journey can take 60-75 minutes.
There will be luggage storage available on the opening day for people arriving directly from the airport for the opening session and the President’s Welcome & Reception.
Transportation will be provided back to the hotels after the President’s Welcome & Reception.
Friday & Saturday:
Shuttles will operate on a continuous loop from the hotels to the Xavier University conference venue. There will be a printed schedule of approximate departure times available at conference registration and at the hotels. Please make sure to be in the hotel lobby at least 10 minutes before scheduled shuttle departure times.
Special Events on Friday & Saturday Evening: The journey back and forth from the hotels will take approximately 20 minutes each way. For the Culture Night and Banquet events, it will be possible for participants to return to the hotel to change clothes or freshen up before evening events. But that round trip travel will take about an hour whether using the HSA Shuttle Bus service or traveling by taxi or Lyft services.
